You line up the charcoal briquettes in the specially designed trays. Then use the gas system to light the charcoal. Once the charcoal is lit you can turn off the gas. Whilst using the BBQ is is very important to always monitor to temperate of the BBQ. The best cooking temperatures are between 180 - 220 degree celsius.
